Here at Wpromote, we’re big believers in keeping our fingers on the pulse of the digital marketing industry. We’re voracious readers, scouring blogs, magazines, research hubs, and social media for the latest news that will help us help our clients succeed. But you’re probably wondering: what do we read, and why are we reading it? So, we decided to put together a list of our favorite blogs and resources so you can see for yourself all the hottest and most interesting news the digital marketing industry is buzzing about!
The Moz Blog
This blog tops most lists of “best digital marketing blogs,” and it’s for a good reason. If you’re looking for deep industry insight into SEO, local SEO, content marketing, keyword research, and plenty of other topics, the Moz blog is the place to go. Their in-depth research and expertise makes them an incredible resource, and their comments sections are always alive with thoughtful, productive discussion. If you want to learn to live, breathe, and think digital marketing (and learn some great stats and strategies along the way), then the Moz blog is the place to go.
Honorable Mention: Search Engine Roundtable, a great resource for SEOs, and Search Engine Journal, which digs into paid search and social media in addition to their great SEO content.
Marketing Land
Marketing Land is your one-stop shop for all things digital marketing. The oft-updated site boasts an enormous roster of savvy and experienced contributors on topics all across the digital marketing landscape. (Just check out their site nav to see how many topics they cover!) Marketing Land offers analysis and coverage as well as discussion and research, so you can get the news you need to know while also enjoying in-depth white papers and research reports.
Honorable Mentions: Search Engine Land and MarTech Today, sister publications to Marketing Land with slightly different focuses. Make no mistake, though: both are just as valuable as Marketing Land.
PFSK
Despite the site’s slightly obscure moniker, the content on PFSK couldn’t be clearer. If you’re looking for retail-focused insights and news, you’ve come to the right place. PFSK conducts their own in-house research which they transform into lengthy and incredibly detailed reports for their membership base. About the only downside is that they require a paid membership for their reports and white papers, but you can read their op-eds and listen to their podcasts for free.
Honorable Mention: Digital Commerce 360 are the brilliant minds behind IRCE, the Internet Retailer Conference + Exhibition (which Wpromote attends and sponsors every year!), and they’re a great resource for all things digital commerce and retail.
Chief Marketer
Taking a broader view than more channel-focused outlets, Chief Marketer is a great destination for B2B and B2C marketers as well as anyone who wants to take a big-picture look at digital consumer marketing trends. They’re a great resource for checking out what some of the world’s biggest brands are up to, and they offer an indispensable marketing resource directory completely free, so you can find your next agency, platform, or venue.
Honorable Mention: While not focusing exclusively on the digital side of marketing, Adweek is still a powerhouse resource for any marketer who wants to keep up with the latest in all things brand marketing. While many of their articles are paywalled, you can access some of their content for free.
eMarketer
eMarketer is more than just a blog, of course; it is the hub for digital marketing research, articles, and reports. Their research into digital trends is the best in the industry, and they cover just about every topic imaginable from every angle. A lot of their more in-depth content requires a subscription, but they offer plenty of free content for the enterprising digital marketer who wants to know all the numbers behind the trends and what the industry experts have to say.
Honorable Mention: While Statista isn’t solely a digital marketing resource, they certainly cover the industry in-depth with tons and tons of valuable data.
Tambourine
Are you a travel and/or hospitality marketer searching for a place to find news, tactics, guides, and more? Tambourine has you covered. They’re a hotel marketing-focused company, but their blog is a great resource for anyone interested in how to make digital marketing work for their hospitality business. They update frequently with in-depth articles, so keep them bookmarked if you want to know the latest updates and strategies.
Honorable Mention: Hotelmarketing.com is a bit bare bones, but there’s no denying that their daily updates on global trends and changes in travel and hospitality are the real deal. We recommend signing up for their newsletter to get a curated list of articles that’s a bit easier to digest.
The Financial Brand
Looking for a digital marketing resource dedicated to banks, credit unions, and other finserv (financial services) businesses? Look no further than The Financial Brand. They cater to financial marketers who must navigate strict regulations and restrictions when planning their marketing campaigns. Their huge list of topics covers everything finserv marketers need to know, from data analytics to social media and much more.
Honorable Mentions: Though they (clearly) aren’t dedicated to digital marketing, both Entrepreneur and Forbes offer some valuable digital marketing insights, if you know where to look.
Official Google Blogs
You probably know tons and tons of blogs that exclusively cover Google, but have you read Google’s own official blogs? They have a few: the main Google Blog (called The Keyword), which covers all kinds of Google-related stories; Think with Google, which focuses more specifically on search trends and analysis thereof; the Google Ads Blog, which covers Google Ads news; and the Google Webmaster Central Blog, which acts as a resource for developers. I also recommend checking out some of their now-defunct official blogs, particularly The Keyword’s precursor and the previous AdWords blog. Where better to get Google news and updates than from the source itself?
Official Facebook Blogs
Just like with Google, you probably know or already follow many blogs that cover Facebook. And just like Google, Facebook has their own official blogs that let you get your news and insights straight from the top. Perhaps the most interesting of these is Facebook Research, Facebook’s in-house research arm covering company news as well as Instagram, VR and AR, AI and automation, and more as Facebook strives to lead the industry in innovation. There’s also the Facebook For Media and the Facebook For Developers blogs, which offer best practices and updates for advertisers and for web developers respectively.
